The Lying Game

Here, Kristen talks about her new character, Char. Along with some of the other key cast members, Kirsten gives the audience a sneak preview to the show. The Lying Game, which is based on the book, Pretty Little Liars, by Sarah Shepherd, is about a girl who finds out she has an identical twin. During this interview, which takes place during a glamorous photoshoot, Kirsten says of her new character:  “Char is from a very upscale home. She likes to dress to the nines… but she’s a really sweet girl.”

Not long after the start of popular series, The Lying Game, Kirsten plays ‘Truth or Lie’, giving away some of her intimate secrets and habits. She has never cheated on a boyfriend, but admits she has cheated in school tests. Her bedroom is never a mess, but admits she struggles to remember friends’ birthdays without the help of Facebook. And she may be proud to tell us she was a good student at school, but she admits she wasn’t as good behind the wheel – she didn’t pass her driving test first time.

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse

During this ten minute interview, Kirsten talks to Clevver TV about her character, Lucy, in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. Kirsten tells how she was worried and intimidated when she started on the series as the cast was already so established. “I thought I’d be eating lunch on my own,” she admits. However, she said the cast welcomed her with open arms and Jackson, in particular, was really sweet to her. She tells Clevver’s presenter how her first day on set was like her first day of high school. She also tells how, because of how many fans the show already had, there were police cars everywhere and the paparazzi was a problem. She explains how she had to wear a bath robe between scenes so that she did not give away hints to her clothes or make-up to passers-by. Kirsten goes on to say how she was bullied at school as she was always the odd one out, being in a TV show. She originally auditioned for a different part on the show, but casting producers actually preferred her for a different part – that of Lucy. Kirsten also explains how excited she was when she found out she had won a part on the show. “My sister and I were jumping around screaming,” she laughs.

What draws fans to Twilight Saga: The Eclipse? “I think it’s the romance,” said Kirsten when Hollywood Teenzine caught up with her outside a premiere. When asked who had the messiest dressing room, Kirsten laughed. “I don’t know… I don’t really snoop in people’s dressing rooms! But I guess… Rob,” she giggled.

Kyle XY

To promote her show, Kyle XY, Kirsten participates in another interview with Clevver TV, where she is put in the channel’s famous One Minute Hot Seat. Here she reveals her likes and dislikes for the show. Did you know Kirsten prefers comedy to horror, and blackberry to iphone? She also chooses rock music over pop music, and likes Twitter over MySpace, but Facebook over Twitter. She prefers playing sport to playing the Wii, and – rather obviously – prefers blonde to brunette.

Pledge Now campaign

Kirsten recently spoke out of her support for Pledge Now’s TXT L8R campaign. She is brave enough to admit that she once used to text whilst driving. The Lying Game star said she had a few close calls whilst texting and driving: “I looked up a couple times and I was like an inch from someone’s bumper,” she said. She explains how she has now realised how dangerous this is and that people should “just get off the phone and drive”. “If you really want to use the phone, you should pull over,” she advises.

Kirsten Prout

Starting her acting career at the tender age of ten, Canadian actress Kirsten Prout is a rising star in Hollywood. She has appeared in major Hollywood blockbusters such as Elektra and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, and hit TV shows such as Kyle XY. She is now set to appear in the new ABC Family offering, The Lying Game, based on a series of novels by the same name; premiering August 2011. Kirsten’s extensive martial arts training helped her in the role of Abby Miller in the movie Elektra, where she performed her own stunts. The academically inclined actress attended McGill University as an English Literature major, which enhanced her understanding of both story and character.

In The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, Kirsten plays Lucy, a tall and blonde vampire of Jasper’s (Jackson Rathbone) past who helps to create a vampire army, along with fellow vampires Maria (Catalina Sandino Moreno) and Nettie (Leah Gibson). Though the part is relatively small, Kirsten’s character plays an important role in the movie; enabling the audience to see in to a main character’s history. The character of Lucy appears in flashbacks of a far earlier time-period, which depict Jasper’s younger-days as a vampire.

Kirsten will be appearing in the new TV show The Lying Game as Charlotte (nicknamed Char), best friend to Sutton (Alexandra Chando). The show is something that fans of Prout will want to plan their social events and games of cheekybingo around. It looks great and revolves around identical twins Emma and Sutton (both played by Chando), who were separated at birth and adopted by two very different families. After they meet, Sutton convinces Emma to help in the search for their birth mother by pretending to be her. When Sutton mysteriously disappears, Emma must decide whether to admit to the swap or continue to lie to Sutton’s family and friends, including Char. Kirsten’s character puts on a brave face as her mother returns from another stay in rehab. She is not aware that her best friend is missing and that her twin sister has taken her place.

Kirsten Prout has had much success and obviously has a promising career ahead of her. Her ability to play many different types of character is proven by the variety of roles she has already played, and definitely sets her apart from some other actresses of her age. Kirsten is sure to impress once again in The Lying Game, and is likely to appear in hit movies and TV shows for years to come, so keep watch for her next starring role.

Meet The Lying Game’s Kirsten Prout

We’ve been counting down all week to the premiere of The Lying Game on ABC Family – the hot new show about twins Sutton and Emma that switch places and then Sutton mysteriously disappears! The show is finally here on Monday night at 9 p.m. ET and CG is psyched to catch up with one of the show’s stars, Kirsten Prout. You may recognize her as Twilight’s (Eclipse) own Vampire Lucy and now she’s playing Sutton’s BFF Charlotte on The Lying Game. Kirsten dished on how she’s like her character, if she’s Team Edward or Team Jacob and what being a part of Young Hollywood is really like!

Cosmogirl: What is it like on the set of The Lying Game?

Kirsten Prout: It is so refreshing. The cast is honest, kind, inclusive, and talented. You very rarely get sanity and talent in one package but all our girls and guys are good, upstanding people with huge careers ahead of them.

CG: Are you anything like your character Char?

KP: Char and I both love to shop . . . a little too much. We are also both alarmists, I have a definite panicky side, albeit I’m a little less hysterical . . .most of the time!

CG: How are you guys different?

KP: Char is far more popularity obsessed. She just tries too hard socially, and she means well, but it’s just not healthy to be stifling a nervous breakdown every time she sees a social snafu.  I, on the other hand, have never even begun to understand the art of Queen Bee-dom. That was definitely clear all throughout high school!

CG: What’s the worst lie that you have ever told?

KP:  I always find the worst lies are told in relationships – I learned to never lie about your happiness in order to save someone’s feelings from being hurt. It always ends up being so much worse down the line. It’s better to be honest about how you feel.

CG: How about the worst lie ever told to you?

KP: I dated a guy for over a year who lied about his age the entire time. I found out after the fact and couldn’t believe it! I even threw him a birthday party for the wrong age… I couldn’t get over how hard he had tried to keep it a secret! It was really pathetic and embarrassing!

CG: What was it like being in Eclipse?

KP: Being a part of the Twilight phenomenon was life-changing, there is a whole other world of Twilight fandom!  Going to the premieres and meeting the fans who live and breathe the books and movies was pretty unbelievable.

CG: Are you Team Edward or Jacob?

KP: I’m going to turn over a new leaf and not choose favorites – neither hero needs any more fans! They’re set for life.

CG: Who is your celebrity crush?

KP:  Who can resist the boys of True Blood? All of them. Please, don’t make me try to choose!

CG: How would you describe your style?

KP: Bohemian yet polished. I like sundresses with cowboy boots, little shorts with big wedge heels and a big piece of turquoise. I also love classic, Old Hollywood romantic styles. I’m country girl meets city girl circa 1930.

CG: Explain what it’s like being a part of “young Hollywood”?

KP: Young Hollywood is overexposed and misunderstood.  I think anyone can find faults in someone who shares too much about themselves. With social media today, you have these fresh young celebrities who would usually carry an air of mystery but instead start announcing their every thought, cellphone picture, and the occasional misguided opinion. We all make mistakes while we’re young, but it’s now just easier to make those mistakes and have them immortalized through technology. I think it’s just important to remember that everyone, especially young people, change almost every week, and we are always learning.
